Liebster Award Nomination

Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

I have recently had a very busy time juggling a full-time job and running a blog. There is so much effort going into this that my social life is almost non-existent and I hardly ever leave my room on my days off. I don’t mind it though, as I am doing what I like and saving money while I’m at it, and it’s great when you finally see the fruits of your labour! In the last month, my blog views have doubled if not tripled; I scored a brand ambassador position with Travello and won $1500 from StudentFlights who has mentioned a possibility of becoming one of their bloggers and last week the amazing Tracy from Tracys Travels In Time nominated me for a Liebster Award! My blog has won an award! Yay! I am very thankful that she has chosen me and I would like to take this opportunity to talk more about Tracy.

Tracys Travels In Time

Tracy was born in the UK and living in Newcastle until she was 13, when her family moved to South Africa and she could finally see Table Mountain. Something that she had dreamed of since being seven years old, after her grandmother bought her a deck of cards with photographs of all the beautiful places around the world. When turning 21, she decided to go on a gap year like many of us do before thinking about a career and settling down. Now in her 40s, she has realized, she will never do this! Married with a beautiful daughter, she travels the world and has been to over 40 different countries to date. With almost four decades of travel behind her and no end in sight, she has some great stories to tell. Follow her adventures along from her blog-Tracys Travels In Time.

Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

What is The Liebster Award? It’s an award that exists only on the Internet and is given to bloggers by other bloggers. The word Liebster is of a German origin and has several definitions like dearest, sweetest, kindest, valued, pleasant, beloved and so on. The award started in 2011 and is a great way of recognizing, promoting and/or discovering up and coming blogs. It involves a bit of work, but is very much worth it if you want to give back to the blogging community while getting some recognition yourself.

There are a few rules to the Liebster Award and I have listed them below:

1. If you decide to accept the nomination thank the blogger who nominated you and post a link to their blog onto your blog.
2. Display the Liebster Award photo on your blog post and/or displaying it using a “widget” or a “gadget”on your home page.
3. Answer 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
4. Nominate 5-11 bloggers/blogs who you think deserve the Liebster Award.
5. Create 11 questions of your own for the nominees to answer on their blogs.
6. Notify your nominees and provide a link to your post so that they will know what to do.
7. List these rules in your blog post.

Tracy has asked me a few questions to get to know me better and here are my answers.

Favourite city destination and why?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

Sydney will forever be my favourite city in the whole world, even if I was struggling to find work. There is everything here from the best coffee and food to the fantastic coastline with some of the most famous beaches and great walking tracks for the ones wanting to escape the city. You can go scuba diving one day, or to the races the next. From festivals to some amazing markets, one will never get bored here. And trust me when I say that Sydney is so much more than just the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.

Beach/Ocean/Mountain or Jungle?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

All of them! I love being in the nature and I love living next to the beach as much as I like dipping myself in the cooling ocean on a hot summer day, playing in the waves. Living in Australia would be quite tough without liking the beaches as there are so many of them here, it would take close to 27 years to visit a different one every day. I am also a mountain girl and I love hiking! I will be hiking to Everest Base Camp next April and have been training in the gym and hitting the trails in and around Sydney to build up for the hike in the altitude. Needless to say I am so excited about this and thanks to Travello and StudentFlights, I will be able to spend more time in Nepal with my $1500 travel prize money.

Top 3 bucket list destinations?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

1. Climbing Mount Everest. This is my ultimate goal I have set for myself to be achieved in the next ten years’ time. I am enrolling to a mountaineering course in New Zealand once I come back from Nepal and plan on climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Aconcagua in the years coming as well.
2. Hiking Machu Piccu! I can’t wait to see the how the ancient civilization of Incas lived with my own eyes. To visit the sacred religious site would be a dream come true! Very exciting!
3. Visiting Iceland! From what I know and have heard it must be the most magical place in the whole world. With geological formations and scenery that’s out of this world to hot geothermal pools and northern lights-I can’t wait to see its magic!

Most unusual food you have eaten around the world?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

I may sound so not adventurous when I say the food I have eaten has all been pretty normal to me. As I haven’t travelled to any Asian countries, I can’t say I have eaten scorpions or grasshoppers or whatever else they sell on the streets. I have not eaten kangaroo either and I never will as this just doesn’t sit right with me. They are just too adorable! Some of the food I am used to growing up in Estonia would, however, sound exotic to many. Sauerkraut, black pudding (a type of blood sausage), sprats, meat jelly or curd cheese to name a few would freak out many people, but these are the things I miss when I travel the world.

Most memorable travel experience?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

There has been many, but I must say travelling with my partner Michael for the first time, while hitchhiking from Estonia to Lithuania and meeting a fellow Aussie in Latvia who then ended up in the same hostel with us in Lithuania. (The hostel was built into an old theatre building with an indoor skate park, a restaurant and a night club!) From there we travelled together to Poland and ended up meeting again in Prague! It’s one of my favourite memories travelling and it makes a great story too. I think I might have to make it into a blog post some day! Ha!

Favourite travel inspired novels/films?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

I love reading books, but I always read the ones that are based on a true story. Autobiographies and self-help books are my favourite. As I have been thinking a lot about climbing Everest recently, my favourite books that have inspired me to go and climb it are: “The Girl WhoClimber Everest” by Sue Williams, “Facing Up: A Remarkable Journey To TheSummit Of Mount Everest” by Bear Grylls and “Touching My Fathers Soul: A Sherpa’s Sacred Journey To The Top Of Everest” by Jamling Tenzing Norgay.
My favourite travel related movies are “Into TheWild”, “Tracks”, "Sherpa", “Everest”, “The Way” and “Wild”. They all come highly recommended if you want to get inspiration to pack up and hit the road!

If you could travel with any famous person past or present who would it be and why?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

I would probably choose Sir Richard Branson as he is not just a brilliant businessman but also one hell of an adventurer! I mean breaking the transatlantic speed record in a speed boat after almost being killed for the first time and a flying a hot-air balloon across the world does tell you something about the man! After reading his autobiography, I started thinking about entrepreneurship a lot more and I would love to have a chance to meet my hero!

Favourite season to travel and why?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

There is no favourite season as any season is great as long as I’m on the road! Winter in Estonia or winters in Australia are two complete opposites, but I love both of them! It’s the same with summer. Now that I think of it, I haven’t actually experienced a cold winter for three years. It’s almost time to start thinking about going for a Christmas visit in Estonia. Perhaps next year?

Next travel destination?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

Coffs Harbour in Australia for a bit of camping with all of our friends over New Years followed by a few weeks in Bali in March before my big trip to Nepal to do some hiking for a month or two. Very exciting times ahead and I will be sure to write more about this in my later posts!

Favourite mode of transport when travelling?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

There is no one favourite as they all make me feel seasick the same. It depends on where I’m at and what’s available. 4WD in Australia with a rooftop tent must have been my favourite so far, but every time I see a plane take off, I wish I was on it.

What is the best thing about travelling for you?
Adventurous Trails has been nominated for The Liebster Award! Come over to find out more about me!

The best thing about travelling for me is getting to experience new places and then writing about them. I love when I meet people on the way and just getting to know other cultures and how they differ from what I am used to is very fascinating for me. The best thing is that I can share it with all of you, so thank you for coming back to read what I’ve got to say from week to week.
